Dammam, The Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture Eastern Region branch today launched, in partnership with the National Center for Vegetation Development and Combating Desertification (NCVC), the "Committed to working with youth to protect bees" initiative, which aims to nurture a fitting environment for bees and beekeepers in the mangrove forests of Danet Al-Rames. The mangrove honey production initiative, now in its fourth season, involves more than 40 beekeepers and over 4,000 hives along the Arabian Gulf coast, in the middle of the mangrove forests of Al-Qatif Governorate. Branch Director Eng. Fahd Al-Hamzi stressed the crucial role bees play in agriculture and the environment, where they maintain ecological balance and preserving biodiversity. He also highlighted the need to empower and engage youths in beekeeping activities, come up with initiatives to protect the vegetation cover, improve agriculture and food quality, and sustain the ecological system. Mohammed Al-Asam met with the beekeepers participating in the initiative and reviewed the operational mechanisms and efforts made to ensure the success of producing honey from mangrove trees. Al-Asam said that the initiative is bound to raise awareness about modern beekeeping methods, increase honey production, and improve its quality. This year, beekeepers from other regions of the Kingdom take part in the initiative, doubling the number of participants to over 40.
