Saudi Student Triumphs in US Culinary Competition

Washington, November 15, 2023 - Huthaifa Mohammed Al-Hamwi, a student on the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Scholarship Program at the University of North Alabama's Department of Culinary Arts, has achieved first place in a culinary competition held by the university. The contest, spanning three months, featured 12 participants from various nationalities. According to the university, Al-Hamwi's win represents a significant accomplishment in the field of culinary arts.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Al-Hamwi, a student in a major introduced as part of Saudi Vision 2030, credited his success to the support of the cultural attachรฉ at the Saudi embassy in the US. His background includes a degree from a technical college in the Makkah Region and experience in Saudi Arabia's hospitality sector, particularly in hotels near the Grand Mosque and through training in the King Abdullah Economic City program. Al-Hamwi was also recognized as one of the top achievers in this program.

Further, Al-Hamwi has contributed to the promotion of Saudi cuisine at his university in Alabama, persuading the department to include traditional Saudi dishes like kabsah and musaqqaa alongside other international offerings.
