Saudi Post Participates in the UPU Meetings

Riyadh, The Saudi Post (SPL) participated in the works of the 27th conference of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), which was held in Abidjan, Ivory Coast from 9 to 27 August 2021, to discuss several topics in the postal sector and the ramifications of the Coronavirus pandemic on the sector, and to set up strategies to ensure business continuity.
SPL Chairman Eng. Anef bin Ahmad Abanomai, who headed the Saudi delegation in the conference, took part in the ministerial committee held on Tuesday, August 10, which discussed the challenges faced by the UPU in reducing the gap between industrialized and developing countries through digitizing the postal sector, in addition to the documents of the Universal Postal Union and the Abidjan Postal Strategy 2022-2025 as well as the integrated products plan and the Integrated Remuneration System.
The participants also reviewed proposals related to the Universal Postal Union, including the Constitution, the governing laws and bylaws of the conferences, the Universal Postal Convention, and the Agreement on Postal Payment Services.
The event will also witness running the election of Director-General and Deputy Director of the International Bureau of the Universal Postal Union, as well as the election for members of the Board of Directors and the Postal Investment Council for the next term, where the Kingdom, who has been an active and influential member in all meetings, is running for the membership in these two councils, a membership that SPL had won in previous terms.
