Geneva, Jumada I 3, 1435, Mar 4, 2014, SPA — The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has called on the world community to bring those held responsible of committing crimes in Syria before international justice.
This came in a speech delivered by Dr. Bandar bin Mohammed Al-Aiban, President of Human Rights authority of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, at the opening of the 25th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva today.
He said the reports issued on the situation in Syria show plainly that we are before crimes against humanity no less those of previous wars and destructive struggles of history.
He drew the attention of the world that last year the world was speaking of about nearly 60,000 fatalities in Syria while we are today after three years of the Syrian revolt find that the number of those killed surmounted 140,000 and more than 2.5 million refugees and seven million displaced
inside their country in addition to 11000 tortured in prisons as a result of the regime’s perpetual policy of killing, bloodshed and destruction of the country.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is calling over the world to reassess and review the role and effectiveness of the Human Rights Council in confronting the horrible violations of human rights in general and in regions of struggle and crises in particular.
Al-Aiban said his country’s government reiterates its call for prompt implementation of the UN Security Council resolutions and the pertinent resolutions of the Human Rights Council, for bringing those held responsible of crimes against humanity in Syria before the international justice and the withdrawal of foreign fighters and troops from Syria.
Al-Aiban held the world community responsible of the drastic deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Syria, noting that it had to take necessary arrangements to guarantee the delivery of human assistance quickly and peacefully to alleviate the sufferings of the Syrian people.
He drew the attention to the order issued by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud designating a special day for solidarity with the Syrian children to cast light on their sufferings and the need to provision of necessary assistance to them.
