Riyadh, March 10, 2023, SPA -- Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi welcomed the joint tripartite statement issued by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the People's Republic of China regarding the resumption of Saudi-Iranian diplomatic relations, the reopening of their diplomatic missions, the activation of the security cooperation agreement between the two countries, and the cooperation agreement between them in the field of economy, trade, investment, technology, science, culture, sports, and youth.
The Secretary General expressed the GCC's support for what was stated in the joint statement and welcomed all steps that contribute to enhancing security and peace in the region and supporting the stability and prosperity of its peoples, stressing the importance of the pivotal role being played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its effective diplomacy in the regional and international arenas.
Furthermore, he looked forward to this step contributing to strengthening global peace and security, appreciated the efforts made by the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Iraq for hosting the previous rounds of dialogue, and welcomed the efforts of the People's Republic of China for hosting these talks, which resulted in the resumption of Saudi-Iranian diplomatic relations.
The Secretary General affirmed the position of the GCC states towards supporting a policy of dialogue and politically resolving differences, in accordance with the directives of the leaders of the GCC states, by adhering to the United Nations Charter, international law, the principles of good neighborliness, respect for the sovereignty of states, and non-interference in internal affairs, and to resolve disputes through diplomatic means.
