RIYADH – Saudi national team player Fahd Al-Khathami secured the first Saudi medal in the history of the World Karate Championships. Al-Khathami defeated his German opponent Ozdemir Muhammad with a score of 3-0 in the individual fight under the 67 kg weight category. The match took place as part of the 26th World Karate Championships, currently underway in Budapest, Hungary.
According to a new release by Saudi Press Agency, Dr. Musharraf Al-Shehri, the achievement is credited to the support from Saudi leadership and the ongoing efforts of the Minister of Sports, Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki bin Faisal bin Abdulaziz. Dr. Al-Shehri also noted that this medal is a continuation of several other achievements that signify a broader renaissance in sports taking place in the Kingdom.
